PEDICURES: STEP BY STEP

To perform a pedicure you will use all the tools required for a manicure (see previous post) but will want to replace the finger bowl with a footbath. You will also need to add the following items to your kit:

  • toenail nippers to allow you to achieve a precise trim
  • foot file paddle to file away rough, callused skin
  • antiseptic spray to sanitize your feet and prevent infection
  • toe separators (moulded rubber devices) to prevent smudging while you apply polish.

Toe separators prevent polish from smudging.

Place a large folded terry towel on the floor in front of you and set the footbath on it once you have part-filled it with water. Add a few drops of liquid soap, essential oils or your favourite foot/bath salts to the water and allow them to disperse.

Place all your implements, files and supplies on a terry towel within easy reach. For any basic pedicure, you will be following the same type of procedures as with a manicure, although the files you use will be coarser because toenails are generally thicker than fingernails.

Use as a footbath any container big enough to hold the foot.
